So for the past week or so, my sixth graders have been working very hard on prints of Chinese symbols. By using a couple of useful Web sites, they selected a word or phrase they would like to represent. Click here for one of the sites we used to research the symbols.
The students first had to create a rubber plate by carving it out. Anything carved will not get ink.
The students then were very busy (and messy) exploring the printing process and trying out different inks to print with.
Once the students have selected the prints they want to use for the final design, they select background paper to mount the prints on, and then the whole design is mounted on black board. Here are some recent photos of the classroom work.
